This popped up in my Facebook memories today. It was a trade in when I worked at the Ford Chrysler dealership. A MINT,manual Blurple(aka Royal Sapphire) RAV4. It was so cute, and simple, and honestly fun to drive. It was the closest I’ve ever come to buying an SUV.

It sold the second day it was listed to a customer that drive 5 hours to get it. Iirc he traded in a Lexis RX350 for it. I think they sold it for 7,000, even in 2013 that seems nuts to me.

I’ll always love how big this rear door is. The way they integrated the bumper into the door so that the opening I’d all the way down to the flat load floor. It’s just so perfect. I know the second gen RAV4 maintained this but I’m not sure about any of the newer ones.

Also the Mitsubishi Outlander had a similar trick where the bumper area folds doen like a tail gate that’s pretty neat.

But that rear door opens the wrong way! Very Japan-centric design....

The split folding tailgate style is very useful in person. It brings the liftover danger zone away from the bumper and then you can just easily slide it into the cargo bay. Much better than a single piece hatch with a lifting glass segment.

That thing looks awesome, that first gen RAV4 had aged really well.
